The company
Our client has engaged Blackbook Executive to recruit a business-critical position as the Head of Engineering. This position has arisen due to the evolving nature of the business and a need to become a more sophisticated and scalable end-to-end engineered solutions operation. This organisation is seeking a Head of Engineering capable of delivering a standardised and simplified, highly streamlined approach to product design; ensuring designs are optimised and accurately delivered to manufacturing. The Head of Engineering will have the ability to engage and drive the current team in order to optimise their skill base and improve the overall team dynamic

The role
Reporting into the CEO and sitting with the Senior leadership group, your responsibilities will include:

  • Complete ownership over the engineering design team with full oversight over day to day direction and long-term departmental resource planning and management.
  • This position will have accountability over the entire end-to-end design process, ensuring the current engineering team has a standardised approach to delivering product designs into manufacturing.
  • Identifying CI opportunities to implement new structures, tools and systems in order for the engineering team to complete designs in a more efficient manner.
  • Reviewing and optimising current documentation and systems related to engineering design, facilitating changes to process in a structured and simplistic way where necessary.
  • Providing ongoing training and development plans for the group of engineering talent.
  • Working directly with the CEO, and broader senior leadership team to provide continuity across the entire engineered solution to customer.

 
 
Your background

  • Bachelors in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering as preferred but open to other disciplines depending on the persons character.
  • Must have solid demonstrated experience in a similar role, with direct experience as a Change Manager related to standardising and optimising engineering design processes.
  • Must have relatable product design experience from a similar industry; heavy truck, transportation, bespoke trailer design or some automotive suppliers.
  • Must be a highly energetic and patient individual with the proven ability of driving improvements within an engineering team.
  • Must have exceptional communication skills with the ability to work cross functionally with various departments and stakeholders involved in the product design process.
  • Ideally this person will come with a Continuous Improvement focus and an openness towards new technologies and new methods of driving results.
  • Ideally this person will have previous experience using Solidworks for product design, ideally with some exposure to file storage best practices and PDM.
