Opportunity to join a market leader for a business specialising in imports and wholesale distribution of automotive products. Lead Safety policy and procedures across their entire operations covering the ANZ region and play a pivotal role in the development of safety strategy and process.

The Company

Opportunity to join a growing wholesaler and distributor business within the automotive industry as a Safety Manager during an exciting period for the company. Across Australia and New Zealand, the business has a total of 18 branches and expanding. With some of the most reputable global brands in their portfolio, the business is committed to servicing retailers throughout the ANZ region, taking pride in exceptional quality and customer service.
 

The Role

This position will have remit over locations covering Australia and New Zealand and report to directly to the COO. The successful individual will drive safety culture across the business and stakeholders, developing policy and strategy. Responsibilities include:

  • Development, implement and maintain comprehensive policies, processes and systems tailored to both business needs and current regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the business is complies with relevant safety legislation, regulation and standards within Australia and New Zealand, keeping up to date of any legislative changes and developments.
  • Develop, deliver and/ or procure safety training, including induction processes, ongoing education, and specialised training as needed. Whilst also both conducting and supporting Operations in the delivery of toolbox talks.
  • Ensure all incidents, near misses, and accidents are recorded, and appropriate escalation occurs when necessary. Investigate all incidents and identify root causes, recommending corrective actions from findings.
  • Manage the Return to Work (RTW) program, coordinating the management of injuries and liaising with healthcare providers when necessary.
  • Work closely across all levels within the business and with management to integrate a safety culture and mindset into daily operations.
  • Establish key metrics pertaining to safety, and conduct audits to assess compliance with policy, processes and standards, identifying and advising on area of improvement. Ensuring these improvements and any safety initiatives are successfully implemented.

Your Background

In order to be successful in this role, you will:

  • Substantial experience in a safety management role, preferably in a wholesale distribution environment, but can come from another operational or manufacturing background also
  • National or multi-site experience essential
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant safety legislation, regulations and standards across Australia and New Zealand
  • Experience developing safety policy, processes and systems from inception
  • Experience developing, rolling out and running training sessions and inductions
  • ICAM certified desirable but not required  
  • ISO qualification / experience and other relevant formal qualifications / certifications are again desirable
  • Able to travel to locations and distribution centres when necessary
