Senior Category Manager – Packaging

Our client is a large, well-established manufacturing group with operations across ANZ and Southeast Asia. They’re seeking a Senior Category Manager to take ownership of their packaging procurement function – leading strategy, supplier performance, and team capability across a varied and business-critical portfolio.

This role offers a rare opportunity to shape the direction of a high-value category that plays a key role in both operational performance and brand delivery.

The Role:
You’ll be responsible for the end-to-end management of a complex packaging category spanning resin-based materials, flexible films, pouches, and corrugated cases. Working closely with cross-functional partners in marketing, R&D, supply chain, and finance, you’ll lead sourcing strategy, unlock value through supplier partnerships, and support major initiatives across innovation, sustainability, and NPD.

This role also manages a small team of procurement professionals and plays a key part in broader procurement capability uplift across the group.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead category strategy and execution across multiple sites and geographies
• Manage sourcing and commercial negotiations across key packaging formats including resin, flexibles, pouches, and corrugated cases
• Drive supplier performance, risk management, and long-term cost optimisation
• Partner with internal teams to support NPD and sustainability initiatives
• Manage and mentor a small team, setting clear direction and supporting development
• Embed structure, process discipline, and commercial insight across the category
• Deliver against annual operating plans and long-term category goals

What you will need:

• At least 7+ years’ experience in procurement, with strong exposure to packaging categories
• Sound knowledge of key materials and formats, including resin, flexibles, and corrugate
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence stakeholders
• Strong commercial acumen and negotiation capability
• Leadership experience (either direct reports or project teams)
• Familiarity with procurement systems (e.g. SAP, Coupa) and supplier performance frameworks
• Background in manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial environments preferred

Salary: $180,000 – $200,000 package (depending on experience)
