Hands-on DG Chemist role managing chemical waste, hazardous materials and safe depot operations in Ingleburn.

The Company

This is an opportunity to join a growing Australian waste management business with strong momentum, established customer relationships and continued investment across its operations.
The business provides specialist waste and chemical management services to a broad customer base, including industrial, commercial, education and laboratory environments. The business continues to grow and are now looking to appoint a hands-on Dangerous Goods Chemist to support the safe and compliant management of chemical and hazardous waste at their Ingleburn site.

The Role

This newly created role will take ownership of day-to-day chemical operations across a dangerous goods warehouse and depot environment. The position is highly operational and hands-on, working across chemical waste receival, testing, segregation, storage, documentation, customer communication and safe dispatch.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage incoming chemical and hazardous waste through the depot
  • Test, assess and classify chemical waste received into the warehouse
  • Ensure correct segregation, storage and handling of dangerous goods and hazardous materials
  • Support loading and unloading of trucks within the depot
  • Maintain compliance with EPA, dangerous goods, environmental and safety requirements
  • Identify and manage risks associated with unknown or incorrectly labelled chemicals
  • Work closely with customers, laboratories, schools and industrial clients to support safe waste management
  • Provide practical guidance to customers and internal teams around chemical handling and disposal requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation, manifests and waste tracking records
  • Support the safe and efficient operation of the warehouse and broader depot
  • Work closely with drivers, warehouse staff and external stakeholders to ensure waste is handled correctly
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across safety, compliance and operational processes

Your Background

In order to be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have a qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience working with hazardous materials, dangerous goods or waste
  • Strong understanding of chemical compatibility, segregation and safe handling requirements
  • Confidence working in a warehouse, depot, plant or field-based environment
  • Forklift licence
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to deal with customers and external stakeholders in a clear and professional way
  • A safety-first mindset and confidence working around potentially high-risk materials
