Utility Scale Solar, BESS & HV Infrastructure

Lead the Design Function on a Renewable Energy Project. An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Manager to take ownership of the design function across a major utility-scale renewable energy project.

This role will see you leading the delivery of complex utility-scale solar, BESS, and HV substation infrastructure projects while influencing key technical and commercial outcomes from concept through to construction.
Working within a high-performing project environment, you will play a pivotal role in shaping design strategy, driving technical excellence, and ensuring project delivery remains aligned to cost, program, and quality objectives.

The Opportunity

You will provide leadership across the full design lifecycle, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing key interfaces between internal stakeholders, consultants, OEMs, clients, and delivery teams.
This is a strategic leadership role suited to someone who can balance technical depth with commercial awareness and project delivery capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall design strategy across utility-scale solar, BESS, and HV infrastructure scopes
  • Drive design coordination across electrical, civil, structural, and grid connection packages
  • Manage design governance, standards, systems, and technical compliance
  • Provide leadership during concept development, feasibility, and detailed design phases
  • Oversee design change management with a focus on cost optimisation and project efficiency
  • Act as the key interface between engineering, delivery, consultants, and client stakeholders
  • Ensure all design outputs align with quality, constructability, safety, and commercial objectives
  • Mentor and develop Design Managers while fostering a collaborative project culture

About You

  • 15+ years’ experience across power, utilities, or renewable energy infrastructure
  • Strong utility-scale solar farm project experience
  • Proven experience delivering BESS and HV substation design packages
  • Extensive background within complex multidisciplinary project environments
  • Strong understanding of grid connection requirements, HV systems, and Australian standards
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing design functions on large infrastructure projects
  • Degree-qualified Engineer (Electrical preferred)
